Emergency lighting

Emergency lighting is lighting that is intended to be used in the event of a power failure of the normal lighting. Self-contained emergency lamps (LED or fluorescent technology) are normally used.
These emergency luminaires are characterised by the fact that all components (battery, lamp, control gear and control gear where applicable) are contained within the luminaire.
Emergency luminaires are differentiated by:
- luminous flux: lumens declared by the luminaire manufacturer 60 seconds after power failure (0,5 seconds for luminaires for hazardous work areas) and maintained continuously until the end of the rated operating time.
- autonomy: time declared by the manufacturer during which the assigned luminous flux is emitted.
Emergencies operate in three different modes:
- Alert. The emergency luminaire is waiting for a power failure to come into operation.
- Emergency. The emergency luminaire provides lighting while being powered by its internal power supply, once the normal power supply has failed.
- Standby. The state of an emergency luminaire that has been intentionally switched off while the normal power supply is interrupted or that has elapsed the assigned autonomy or duration and the normal power supply has not been restored and that in the event of a return of normal power supply, automatically returns to the standby state.
